One on One with Dee

The most exciting end-of-2007 news is that my CD, "JAZZINIT", was selected as one of the Top CDs of 2007 by three sources: NPR Host, Jim Wilke's Top 10 NW CDs of 2007; CODA Magazine's Top Tens Jazz CDs of 2007; and No. 3 in the TOP 20 Jazz CDs for 2007 with ejazznews.com/. JAZZINIT is on the Origin Records label, and is available NOW for purchase from my Discography page.

The work year ended in Seattle with performances with the Seattle Jazz Repertory Orchestra at their 18th annual presentation of the Duke Ellington Sacred Music Concert (my sixth Sacred Music Concert with them), followed by a New Year's Eve performance with the Federal Way Symphony Orchestra.

2008 began in Toronto at the 35th Annual IAJE Conference where I presented a jazz vocal clinic entitled Crossing Vocal Bridges: A Seamless Approach. A "thumbs up" for my method was given by two well respected and renowned women of Jazz, Grammy Award winning New York Voices member, Kim Nazarian, and Western Michigan University vocal pedagogy professor and author, Diana Spradling along with Dr. Paris Rutherford, Regents Professor in the Jazz Studies Division of the College of Music at the University of North Texas. Needless to say, I was/am honored and totally delighted!.

Just on the horizon is the 41st Annual Lionel Hampton International Jazz Festival. This will be my 18th consecutive year of performances there. New Artistic Director and long time friend, John Clayton, has implemented new ideas that will assist the festival in it's continuation of growth and expansion... very exciting times ahead! Check it out.

I'm also looking forward to returning to the Port Townsend Jazz Festival and Workshop in July. We're implementing a new format and curriculum for a week of intensive vocal instruction... and fun.
